The Prime Minister is lying to your face about selling weapons for Israel’s genocide

It is not difficult to understand the darkness swallowing Gaza. 

Like comfortable, educated, middle class Germans living in leafy Berlin suburbs with train stations that daily sent thousands of Jews to death camps in the 1940s, most of us are simply choosing not to comprehend the depravity encircling us. A shred of humanity, a modicum of media literacy and a functioning frontal lobe should be enough to make this compound atrocity clear. It has never been ‘complicated’. 

You’ve just been lied to, over and over, whether you are capable of perceiving it or not. Western colonial supremacy has barely slowed in the last 500 years, and this, right now, is Israel’s final solution for Gaza​, 78 years and counting. Unless humanity can collectively rediscover its spine and conscience, soon, the West Bank will suffer a similar fate. 

Not a skerrick of food, aid, or water has entered Gaza for more than 70 days. Zionist fanatics at the borders have destroyed flour stores. Just like the preceding ‘Is it ok to rape Palestinian prisoners’ debate, Israeli society is presently discussing whether starving Gaza is the answer they seek. Members of Netanyahu’s government have, yet again, proclaimed they are seizing the enclave. 



And the Australian media hasn’t noticed any of this, apparently. Between the gormless jocks with the intellectual depth of a meat pie and the soulless ghouls that get off on the taste of proximity to boot, I’d rather piss rusty razor blades coated in vinegar than be in the same room as these people.

Across 19 months, we have collectively witnessed depravity beyond the imaginable. Disabled children sniped. Recordings of crying babies used to lure rescuers into drone ambushes. Playgrounds bombed into dust and tiny limbs. Refugee camps incinerated. Hospitals eviscerated. Death tolls approximated by the weight of bags of miscellaneous meat. Fishermen shot at sea. IDF soldiers with PTSD from bulldozing too many captive Palestinians. A man with Down’s syndrome fed to IDF attack dogs. Elderly women waving white flags murdered in the coldest of blood. A five-year-old girl, Hind Rajab, shot hundreds of times while crying for help surrounded by her murdered family. At least 205 Palestinian journalists have been exterminated for sharing these truths with the world. You owe it to them to understand what is happening.

Gaza has been levelled. For the survivors, funnelled into the south, the concentration camp is becoming even more concentrated. Every structure has been damaged. Every resident displaced. More than half the victims of the IDF’s terrorism are children. Even the Nazis didn’t flatten the Warsaw ghetto. Humanity will not know the true scale of this crime until after the slaughter subsides, and even then, only if Israel and its allies aren’t allowed to erase their sins and further pervert history. 

Death tolls have been frozen around the 50k mark for such a long time that it feels irresponsible to use that figure. Last year, The Lancet estimated the true toll, given the scale of destruction compared with other conflicts, at 186,000. In late February 2025, Trump absentmindedly estimated there were between 1.7 and 1.8 million souls still alive in Gaza. While acknowledging the man is prone to uttering utter nonsense, if Trump’s napkin math is accurate, up to half a million Palestinians could have been exterminated across the last year and a half. 

World-leading trauma expert and anti-Zionist Jew Gabor Maté said: ‘When people like this are empowered and encouraged and allowed and supported to perpetrate their horrors, they get more crazy, they get more cruel. They get more remorseless, more relentless. More ruthless. That’s what happened to the Nazis. The Nazis did not start off with gas chambers. They started killing their mentally ill people in gas vans. Then they started shooting Jews in Eastern Europe. And then they end up with the gas chambers of Auschwitz. It’s a progression of madness and cruelty that’s almost inevitable.’

This is as evil as humans get and eventually everyone will pretend they were against this. 
For Australia, it will be unconvincing. Though we pretend otherwise, Australia stands firmly on the wrong side of one of humanity’s darkest moments.

Under Albanese’s leadership, Penny Wong as Foreign Minister has issued vague missives of ‘grave concern’ aimed at no one in particular, and, well, bugger all else. Following the resounding election victory, Julian Hill equated Adam Bandt’s anti-genocide advocacy with Peter Dutton’s eternal stoking of race hatred, saying Australia had rejected their ‘extremist’ ‘toxic politics of division and mindless negativity’. Centrism, truly, is a brain disease. 

The few ALP members brave enough to speak out on the genocide of Palestine have been ostracized, driven from the front bench in Ed Husic’s case, and from the party wholesale in Fatima Payman’s. The ALP states it values solidarity above all else. There is a party line, walk it. This means it values solidarity above morality seemingly as a matter of principle. Ultimately, then, you get a large unthinking, unfeeling bloc that agrees with itself, about nothing much of importance, while the world rots around it.



No meaningful sanctions, boycotts, divestments or expulsions have occurred. Protesters have been demonised; journalists fired; cultural institutions have caved to the depravity and sold out.

And just days before the election, Prime Minister Albanese again cornered himself into a blatant lie to the Australian people. Typically, the Murdoch press would have jumped at the opportunity to expose hypocrisy or falsehoods from a Labor man. But they will not, their instinctive desire to attack Labor neutered by their reflexive drive to protect Israel at all costs. And so the truth continues to die with Palestine. 
 
At the Prime Minister’s Press Club address, Albanese stated curtly, repeatedly that ‘Australia is not selling weapons to Israel’. 

This is unequivocally not true in any way that actually matters. 

Not only have US airstrikes been coordinated and launched from Australian bases, not only has Australia’s political and media class endlessly covered for Israel’s war crimes, but Australia’s ‘defence’ industry has profited from the sale of deadly devices to Israel. The list of exports to Israel after October 7, acquired under FOI by Declassified Australia, is 90 fucking pages long. New armaments contracts have even been signed deep into what Amnesty International last week described as a ‘livestreamed genocide’ – again, seemingly without anyone in the Australian press noticing. 

Like a lawyer looking for weasel-y loopholes, Albanese is basing the ‘truthiness’ of his claim on the difference between selling weapons and selling weapons components. This is like claiming IKEA doesn’t sell furniture, only furniture components. The hairs he is splitting are on the heads of murdered Palestinians. 

That the Prime Minister thinks this distinction is meaningful shows how detached from our humanity we have become. Any legitimate claim at moral righteousness has been burned to a crisp in Gaza. I didn’t sell the Nazis guns, just bullets and triggers and muzzles and barrels. It all sounds so pathetic, trying to loophole and obfuscate your support for the gravest crime imaginable.

The thing is, weapons are always made of components. Many of those components only go into weapons; they aren’t used for other things. And when Australia sells weapons components to Israel, Israel doesn’t turn them into water filters or bouncing castles or ice cream cake. Israel turns them into weapons. Weapons they use to unleash holocaust on Palestine. 

Australian weapons components become weapons that turn Palestinian children into the components of Palestinian children. It really is quite simple, and I’m staggered that the nation is of a mind to let this slimy spinelessness slide. 

Albanese is choosing to obfuscate Australia’s contribution to a crime against humanity. Gaza, a hellscape created by four atomic bombs worth of explosives, is the sharpest mirror into the depravity of the Western world’s soul. And your Prime Minister is lying to your face about it all. 

True hope lies elsewhere. I await the next term of his Prime Ministership with the enthusiasm I usually reserve for colonoscopies.
